This family shoot 😍🙌
brisbane family photographer
When your beautiful Bride-to-be has to fly out the next day and you have no other opportunity to reschedule their engagement shoot, you have to shoot rain or shine. Which is exactly what we did, hiding under umbrellas and a useless rotunda (when the rain is coming in sideways). I have to admit it was so much fun, I couldn't stop giggling with this beautiful couple. This gorgeous lady with her hair and make up done, her beautiful dress and sandals, kept asking me if she could carry my bag full of equipment and held my brolly when we were walking over the wet beach! (Of course her wonderful Groom-to-be asked too, countless times). I can't wait to shoot your wedding in a months time, it's going to be stunning 😍
Ooooohhhh another Raw Design Media gallery was viewed by its family! 266 images of gorgeous moments from the families photo shoot, ready to sit on the walls of the family home.

The 4074 and surrounding suburbs, proudly held its second Community Fun Day, last Sunday the 1st of May, thanks again to Lisa Baillie and her hardworking team! Even though the rain was determined to set in & drizzle for the majority of the day, it didn't stop our community from turning up in their wellingtons & rain coats, and support our local, talented & hard working vendors, who raised funds to support two wonderful local organisations, Project: Love & Care and Mount Ommaney Special School. What a turn out! I couldn't be more proud to be part of such a vibrant, warm and engaging neighbourhood, who crowded into the market stalls to check out everything that was on offer. Some of the highlights from the day would have to be Just Poppy's hamburger eating competition... Whoa!? Those burgers were huge!! Even bigger was the crowd that got in nice and close to watch the contestants try & eat their way to be number one! Although it was touch and go, there was one clear winner who took the trophy home. Next up was the Cake bake competition sponsored by Cakes Around Town. The detail and effort that went into these cakes was evident, with everyone lining up to sample a taste, after all the winners had been announced! Lisa Terare and her Remax Innovations crew, put on a great show with toddlers of all ages bopping to their tunes, and Kiwanis Club Brisbane kept everyone well fed. There really was something for everyone! I am still editing and sorting through the images of the day, but here is a taster below of some of the highlights!

A little something to warm you up on this lovely cool, autumn day! Happy Friday!
You know a family is a good fit, when you suggest popping their newborn on the ground, nestled in a blanket for a photo, and they help you pile up the fallen leaves around his head. This is what I love about my job, meeting new people and sharing in their world. I love it even more when they share in my ideas and help to make them happen. Capturing a family at play (and sleep) is my favourite pastime. Bex x
"Professional, passionate and so so talented! Our experience with Raw Design has been wonderful with Bex capturing beautiful images of our family that will last a lifetime. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend or to book with Raw design again in the future. Thank you Bex"
“There is a creative fraction of a second when you are taking a picture. Your eye must see a composition or an expression that life itself offers you, and you must know with intuition when to click the camera. That is the moment the photographer is creative. Oop! The Moment! Once you miss it, it is gone forever.”

It's school holidays over at our house still, which means checking out #Goma and #QLDmuseum for kids activities!
This picture of Ebony was taken while we were waiting for both to open. Now normally I love editing an image to see how dreamy or dramatic I can make it, push my boundaries in the post editing phase... This image was different. I love how classic it looks, how creamy the tones are and most of all how comfortable Ebby was in front of the camera. I also love how she was holding her dolly for the camera too
Merry Christmas from my family to yours. It really is the most wonderful time of the year!
Wishing my past and future clients a very safe and Merry Christmas, thank you for a wonderful year!
I hope next year brings you all the hope, happiness and adventure you desire. I can't wait to meet all the new families, couples, newborns and faces of 2016. I get excited just thinking about who you are and how I can make your session special for you.
Lots of Love
Meet Zoey, a five day old adorable little girl, with an amazing head of hair! Her parents were the most relaxed first time parents I have ever met, we had a wonderful session!
Did you know I use natural light during our sessions? I pick a beautiful outdoors location for your portraits, or I can come to you and shoot from the comfort of your home.
In the images below I picked a window with gorgeous light in the family home, removed a picture from the wall and snapped away. I make it as easy as that for you!
This is the most asked question I hear from my clients in our pre-consultation stages so I thought I would share with you my top 10 tips for what to wear on a Photo shoot.
First and foremost you want to feel comfortable on your shoot and what you chose to wear on the day will have a direct impact on that.
Styling a family; As a general rule I tell my clients to select a total of 3-4 colours max and to stay away from bold patterns as they can detract from both the scenery and the main focus of the shot, YOU.
Have a look at the colour wheel below for some colour HARMONY
With that being said however, if one person was to wear a colourful print in say a shirt or a dress you could select two other colours from the said print and style your families wardrobe around it. Here are a few examples;
Wear your Sunday best. What does this mean I hear you ask? Wear something that is a bit dressier than what you would ordinarily wear, with out being to formal. Light cotton dresses for girls and button up shirts for boys is a sure fire win.
Keep your location in mind. If you are going to be having a photo shoot outdoors than most likely I will have you sitting or lying down at some stage. Make sure your outfit will allow for this.
Plan all the way down to your shoes. Yes that's right. Put as much thought into your footwear as you would your outfit. Do they need cleaning? Are they comfortable? Do they make you feel amazing?
At the risk of completely confusing and losing you...
Don't dress too matchy matchy. Yep I know you all know what I mean! You would have seen pictures floating around the web (or have them hanging on your walls at home from when you were little) of those rigid family Portraits where the whole family is wearing denim pants and a white top, or all the girls are wearing identical dresses matching their mum!! I sure have & cringe every time. Stay clear of matching everyone's outfit.
Make up & hair. I love nothing more than to see everyone look as natural as possible when turning up for their photo shoot, it's a timeless classic look that always looks fresh. For the ladies and girls, keep your hair out & flowing and to the boys use as little of product as possible. Make up always accentuateswomen's features and make us feel that little extra special but don't go overboard. Mascara, light covering of foundation/powder & some lippy will do the trick. It's a fine balance, you don't want to look too made up for a park portrait but you also don't want to look washed out. A bit of colour on the apples of your cheeks & some tinted lip gloss or lipstick ought to do the trick.
Don't wear clothes that wrinkle easily or have stains. Photoshop is an amazing tool that allows us to do so many things, from changing the colour of the sky, removing blemishes on the face or even removing an entire person as they wander past our frame during a shoot. It can not however, iron the wrinkles out of your shirt & you'd be amazed at how much they come up on print.
Let teenagers chose their outfit, they feel self conscious at the best of times so letting them select their own outfit will give them a certain amount of control with the shoot and be more inclined to turn up ready to participate.
I have been asked on many occasion whether parents should ask younger family members to remove accessories for a Photo shoot. I personally don't mind if a child/teenager wants to wear their favourite "loom" band or bracelet/watch/jewellery I find it is those small details which both you and your children will look back on in years to come as the "remember that bracelet in this photo? I used to looove it" stage. After all that's what we want to achieve in our sessions, capturing a moment in time to look back on in years to come. If your teenagers or partner need a little guidance when getting ready refer them to these steps;
- Wear something comfortable that you love and feel fabulous in
- Wear your Sunday best
- Stick to 3-4 colours (If 1 person is wearing a pattern however, stick to 2 colours from the said pattern)
- Allow teenagers to select their own outfits (after they have read our guidelines that is :o)
- Keep your location in mind
- Don't forget your shoes!
- Don't be too matchy matchy
- Don't wear clothes that wrinkle easily or have stains
- Keep it natural with make up & hair
- Wear your best smile, you're going to have fun!

I love these two.
I love hanging out with a new family and meeting the littlest family members. Always a little standoffish to begin with, not sure about me and my big camera. I love the challenge of getting them to be comfortable enough to be themselves in front of the camera, then capturing them having an absolute ball. Family portraits should be fun, silly, exciting and above all memorable.

I got to hang out with this boy last week and he let me take his photo! What a beautiful afternoon session, wrapped up in half an hour. I'm in love with the results!!
