Ellie + Flick, dog and owner portrait - Brisbane photographer - Raw Design Media

When I am not in the midst of wedding season and photographing gorgeous bride & grooms, I get to hang out with awesome people like Ellie and her one of a kind Australian Cattle Dog, Flick! I seriously have the best job!!

These two were the absolute cutest and had the most amazing bond. We pottered around Ellie's parents property stopping in different locations to snap the pair as they hang out and even though it was one of the windiest afternoons imaginable, we got some beautiful shots.

Originally Ellie was given a Raw Design Media gift card for her birthday to have an  equine photoshoot with her (then)  clydesdale horse, but as luck turned out Ellie and her horse were not a good  fit and we ended up having Ellie's portrait session with her pal Flick.

Flick was a rescue dog, who was born with an unusual birth defect which caused her nose to split down the middle. Ellie welcomed this (then) puppy into her home and not long after, her heart. I think her nose looks like a little love heart don't you!

"Absolutely love Bex's work! Had such a blast being photographed by her she was so lovely and professional! Xx" Ellie

Newborn photo shoot at home - Raw Design Media

Meet Max, three weeks new and utterly devine!
I love when I see parents snuggle up to their babies. Soaking in everything that is their newborn. From that soft skin, to that newborn smell! I love capturing the connection they have. Capturing how little their newborn looks in their arms. It blows me away every time seeing the love & affection of new parents and their baby. Did I mention toes yet? Oh those little toes!

We are one year old!!!

We are one year old today!!!! Thank you for all your support!

One year ago we held our breath and laid our hearts on the line launching Raw Design Photography. We weren't sure if people would get what we do and how we do it but we couldn't have been more wrong. It seems you are all a little crazy like us and love to live in bold, rich, courageous colour, then in tender moments reflect a little in black and white for a deep sense of mood. We love it and you! Thanks for following our journey and checking in with us from time to time. We would love to meet you all in person and share your moments up here too. Drop us a line to inquire about our Package and A la carte price list today.

Sherwood Arboretum + this girl

My heart swells every time I think of how far this little girl of mine has come. Born four weeks early 2.5kg and 48cm long, Ebony was a fragile little baby with big wide eyes. I am so grateful to this day, for the wonderful midwives and obstetrician that allowed Ebony and I our first moments together for some skin on skin contact. It felt as though we were there snuggled for a good 20mins together, her wide eyes looking up at me, not making a sound. My husband corrects me when I recall this moment as being quite different. One of great urgency, hustle and bustle and no more than a couple of minutes together, before she was taken away by the Neonatal staff at the Wesley hospital, and taken to the Special care Nursery.

Ebony was kept warm in a baby incubator for 48hours and hooked up to a ventilator for 24hrs. She had various monitors hooked up by cords checking her vitals for the next week and tubes for feeding, as her sucking reflex was developing. During this whole period Ebony showed great strength of character and spirit. The whole time we were there, I was told I would not be taking my little girl home as she was too fragile and would need more specialised care in hospital. I knew differently. To me she was a strong girl, who was not as fragile as she appeared. I would be taking her home, but it would take some work. Every moment I had I was in the special care nursery, working on attachment and breastfeeding. By the end of the week Ebony had gained her birth weight, much to everyones surprise and we were allowed to take her home! I was completely over joyed when I heard those words that I would be able to take her home with me, I have never taken it for granted.

From those first few moments of life Ebony showed nothing but resilience and strength, which is only fitting, as Ebony means "strength" and "beauty, inside and out". Qualities she continues to use to this day. I couldn't be any more proud of this strong little spirit. So full of character and joy, always willing to try new things. She brings so much love and happiness to our lives. We love you very much.

You can tell when this girl is concentrating... One word. Tongue :o)

Brisbane's top spots for family portraits

I love photographing in this little part of Brisbane, there is so much variety.

All of our Raw Design sessions are relaxing, stress free & lots of fun! This session in particular however, was especially relaxing, so much so that our smallest little member fell asleep on the job :o) We couldn't help but continue to photograph, with beautiful results.

Brisbane Photographer Newborn Lifestyle Session -Raw Design Media

Meet Clara & her beautiful family.

What a wonderful way to spend a cold winters morning, staying rugged up inside having a newborn photo session. These guys were so chilled out, what a beautiful morning.

I am a big fan of colour in my portraits. Bold, rich, courageous colours. I do love however, how a black and white image can evoke mood & emotion in a photo. Just by stripping back the colour on certain images you really get to focus on the subject. The image below was definitely one of those moments.

Documenting Family Moments

I love seeing and photographing the beautiful in every day, in every moment. Whether it is a celebration of a special occasion or celebrating an everyday moment, by seeing something special in it...
My family have been well documented to date. The first cries, the first smiles, the first steps, the first time on a swing, the first time on a bike. I have all of these memories ready to share with them when they are old enough. What I had noticed of late, was that Scott & I were missing from these beautiful moments. When of course we were right there behind the frame with arms outstretched encouraging those first steps, pulling silly faces to get those first smiles.
This last weekend we decided to change that and jump right in the frame with our two littlies' so we could be part of the special memories, that will be recalled for years to come.
